Friends of Lusher Helps Bring Education Beyond State Funding…
Lusher Charter School prides itself on reaching beyond a state-funded education for our students. We provide a comprehensive arts program from K-12th grade. Our sports program is thriving, reaching state playoffs in various sports. Our academics are stellar and one of a kind. Students work with NASA, take courses from Tulane, and get admitted to top universities throughout the country. The Class of 2019 earned $38 million dollars in merit-based college awards and scholarships.
Past Lusher Pride campaigns have supported every Lusher student in some manner. Some key projects, working with the Lusher PTSA, have included: the Willow Street Playground and turf installations, and the Freret campus Lions Gate Theatre renovations. We have purchased football helmets for Athletics, cameras and dance lockers for the Arts, and extensive technology upgrades at both campuses. We also use funds for faculty Professional Development within and beyond our walls.
Lusher is thrilled to announce that at the end of the New Orleans Saints’ 2019-2020 season, the artificial turf used by the Saints for one year will be ours! Lusher’s Brees Family Field will have the benefit of a professional-grade surface that will last longer and be consistently “game-day ready,” with little maintenance.
The new Saints turf will mean no more weekly and annual maintenance costs for the grass field. Drainage, both for the field itself and for the surrounding area, will be much improved and the field will look better and play better. Lusher has an exciting opportunity to completely renovate the field and add baseball and softball to the many sports utilizing the facility.
The cost of the new athletic complex will be approximately $3.5 million, which
