Students throughout Orleans Parish may apply for openings through an application process approved by the Office of Civil Rights. All applicants must complete an application packet, submit all other required documentation, take an admissions test and attend one of the two scheduled curriculum meetings (K-1 only).
Lusher Charter School has a unique curriculum founded on a concept of arts integration which weaves the arts into all of our classes. The school has a rigorous academic program, with accompanying higher expectations. We believe it is important for families to understand these foundations of our program before making their choices for an education partner for their children. To assist families with their decisions, our curriculum and programs are reviewed at curriculum meetings as part of our admissions process. Attendance at one of the two Kindergarten/1st Grade curriculum meetings is required and earns four points on the admissions matrix.
As per our charter, for Kindergarten applicants only, qualified siblings of Lusher students who attended Lusher’s Lower School and who will be enrolled in Lusher Charter School (K-12) in the 2019-20 school year, will be admitted before other applicants. A certain number of openings will be reserved for qualified children of Tulane University affiliated parents.
Because there are more qualified applicants than spots available, lotteries are held for every grade. Sibling policy applies only to kindergarten applicants.
The application process for the 2019-20 school year begins October 8, 2018.
Applications will be available online or at the Willow Campus office. Applications must be submitted in person and are accepted Monday through Friday, between 9:00 and 3:00; Saturday, Nov. 3, 2018, 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.; and Saturday, Dec. 8, 2018, 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
Applications are considered late if submitted after Noon on January 11, 2019. Late applications are accepted but are only processed if no qualified applicants remain on the waiting list in the grade to which the student has applied.
Parents must bring both the original and a copy of the following documents for verification:
– Student’s birth certificate
– Final 2017-18 report card (3rd-5th Grade only)
– First quarter 2018-19 report card (2nd Grade only)
The Admissions Office will assign a testing date when the completed application is received and processed. All applicants must schedule and complete their testing at Lusher. Once a child has completed the test, there is no retesting.
Lusher does not provide testing information over the phone. Test results are mailed. Please make sure your address is current.
A lottery is used to place applicants. Admission will depend upon the availability of spots at each grade level.
