Lusher Lower School curriculum is developed using the latest research in child development and adapts teaching strategies to meet the individual needs of each student. Assessment data is used for student grouping, monitoring progress, and developing specific intervention strategies when needed. Arts are integrated throughout the curriculum, providing the groundwork for creative investigations into class work. Inquiry based instruction methods are applied and are re-enforced with special environmentally focused trips such as Earth Keepers, Sunship Earth, and Coastal Roots. Special software and curriculum materials are carefully selected to help students advance in reading, mathematics and science. Tulane University work-study and volunteer students provide extra support in classrooms. Every classroom has interactive Promethean Boards, document cameras, and at least five computers. Mobile laptop labs are also available for whole class use. Students use a variety of technological tools at each grade level, thus preparing them for future research and presentation skills.
Project Pride in the Classroom
Lusher’s “Project Pride” core values of kindness, respect, hard work, and responsibility are incorporated into every aspect of the curriculum and are emphasized on special field trips and activities throughout the school year.
Expanding the Classroom
Student life extends beyond the normal school day with unique after school programming designed to support the curriculum.
