Update: Services celebrating Gilgamesh Homan’s life will be held Saturday, September 28, from 10 am-11 am at Xavier University’s Katharine Drexel Chapel (on Pine and Drexel at the northeast edge of the campus, behind the Admin building), followed by a jazz procession through campus, over the pedestrian bridge, and ending with an informal lunch to follow in the Art Village on Pine across from the Washington canal from 11:30am – 1:30 pm.
The Lusher family is grieving the loss of Gilgamesh “Gil” Homan, Lusher 2019 graduate, son of first grade teacher Therese Fitzpatrick and her husband, Michael Homan, and brother of Lusher alumna Kalypso Homan (Class of 2013). Gil was gravely injured in an accident on Sunday evening. Gil, 18, died on Tuesday, September 17 and was an organ donor. This beautiful, strong young man was a gift to us in life and will be a gift to so many as he passes.
Gil was on the Lusher soccer team and received a Certificate of Artistry in Stagecraft. He ran with Lusher’s cross country and track teams. He had just kicked off his freshman year at LSU.
Our primary concerns at this time are supporting Gil’s family, our students, alumni and staff members as we process this terrible news. Grief counselors are available at both campuses to support students, alumni, staff and parents. Email social workers firstname.lastname@example.org (lower school), email@example.com (high school) or firstname.lastname@example.org (middle school) for assistance.
Services celebrating Gil’s life will be held Saturday, September 28 from 10 am-11 am at Xavier University, with an informal lunch to follow from 11am -1 pm.
In lieu of flowers or monetary donations to the family, contributions may be made to the Gilgamesh Homan Memorial Scholarship Fund. This fund will provide financial assistance to a Lusher High School graduate who attends Xavier for their freshman year. The link to donate is: https://giving.xula.edu/pages/scholarships. Go to “Designation” and you’ll see the fund. You may also make checks out to Xavier University of Louisiana. Please include: the Gilgamesh Homan Memorial Scholarship Fund in the memo.
