The senior biomed students came to Willow Street on Friday, December 7th to teach a science lesson to our fourth grade students. The fourth grade students were learning about the nervous system. To extend their learning, the biomed students conducted an experiment regarding the fourth graders’ reflexes. The biomed students activated the fourth graders’ knee reflexes and used a computer program to measure how fast the students moved. They also had the students kick their legs without activating their reflexes (they kicked by thinking about thinking). They measured those kicks with the computer program. After the experiment, they reviewed their data and fourth graders learned that their reflex movements were faster than their “thinking” movements. It was an exciting event for both our Freret campus students and our Willow Street students.
