Beatrice Zhang, a Lusher senior and Level 4 CA Creative Writing student, has just earned one of the highest honors possible for a high school writer. Zhang was announced as a Young Arts finalist for her stunning essay, “Emigrants.” Zhang is the only writer in the state recognized by Young Arts this year.
Lusher’s CA Visual Arts program were also represented in this year’s winners. Senior Logan Magee was awarded an Honorable Mention in Visual Arts. This honor comes as no surprise to anyone who’s seen Logan’s work handing in the halls of the Freret Street Campus.

Selected through a blind adjudication process conducted by an independent panel of highly accomplished artists, the 2017 Winners represent the top 8.67% of applications and include 167 Finalists, the organization’s highest honor. This year’s Finalists have the opportunity to participate in the 36th annual National YoungArts Week in Miami from January 8 to 15, 2017. All Winners become part of a professional network of over 20,000 alumni artists and are eligible to participate in YoungArts’ regional programs, including YoungArts Miami (February 21 – 26, 2017), YoungArts Los Angeles (March 28 – April 2, 2017) and YoungArts New York (April 25 – 30, 2017).
