    High School

    Arts Curriculum 9-12
At Lusher High School there is a multitude of arts opportunities available to all students. They include: Certificate of Artistry, Area of Concentration, enrollment in specialized electives, and participation in productions and performances.

A student may audition for placement in the Certificate of Artistry (CA) program in dance, theatre, musical theatre, visual arts, music (jazz, symphonic, vocal, and strings), theatrical production stagecraft, media arts, and creative writing. Click here for more info on CA.

Alternatively students can choose an Area of Concentration (AC) in the arts, which enables them to study one or several art forms for up to two years. An audition placement is not required to participate in an Area of Concentration in the arts.

Electives in a variety of art forms may be scheduled during the four years of high school in order to enhance CA and AC programming. These electives are determined by each student’s 5-year instructional plan.

Performance groups in dance, music, and theatre are available through audition at various times throughout the school year. Visual arts student work is exhibited in the CAVA Gallery and various other venues in school and throughout the city. Media arts students screen self-produced films, and creative writing students annually produce a literary magazine titled, Street, consisting of original works by CA students.

    CAVA Gallery

The Certificate of Artistry Visual Arts program hosts level III group exhibitions, solo senior exhibitions, visiting artists and curated theme shows in Lusher’s CAVA Gallery. Students have the benefit of seeing an exhibition from planning and curating to installation and breakdown, assisting visiting artists and advanced students, and eventually mounting their own show. Level III and IV students participate in formal critiques of all CAVA exhibitions. Receptions offer the school community the opportunity to fully experience and enjoy each new body of work.
